Chapter 8 - Introducing Destiny

Chapter 8 - Introducing Destiny

March 11th 2013

Kristen POV

Despite only deciding to throw a party the night before, with Rob, Nick and Ruth on it, everything was ready to go by late afternoon. Throughout all the commotion Destiny had once again slept through it. The cast had been invited all we could do now was wait. Something I wasn’t good at. Especially when it came to throwing parties, I wasn’t used to hosting them, let alone going to them. Trying my hardest not to get overwhelmed, I made my way into Destiny’s nursery, glancing into her crib as I saw her awake. Scooping her into my arms I laid her against the changing table, quickly freshening up her butt before snapping a new diaper in place, deciding to nurse now, then Rob could give her a bottle later on in the night. Settling down to nurse I once again calmed as she latched onto my breast. It wasn’t long before Rob found me.

“I wondered where you’d snuck off to.”

“Sorry, I needed to get my bearings, as much as I know everyone will be happy for us. This is the first time we’ll be passing her around people.”

“Is that the only reason your panicking?”

“I’m a little apprehensive on Nikki’s reaction.”

“Don’t worry baby. I’ll protect you both.”

“I love you.”

“Love you too.”

“How long until everyone gets here?”

“Not long, five minutes.”

“I’ll get changed after I’ve nursed her. There’s milk for her bottled for later.”

“Alright I’ll finish getting things ready.”

As Rob walked out of the nursery I settled myself in the rocker watching Destiny closely as she suckled greedily. I knew I’d feel content when Destiny was born, however I wasn’t expecting to feel the overwhelming need to stay at home. I’d always been so focused on the next movie, yet now all that mattered was Destiny’s happiness, if I was meant to do a movie I would. There had been a few offers come through that I wanted to look at, the main one being ‘Focus’, I still needed to show Rob the script. After swapping breasts, I noticed Destiny sticking her tongue out realising she was full. Resting her gently against my shoulder, my hand rested against her back as she burped gently nuzzling her head into my neck. Taking a deep breath I slowly moved toward the bedroom, laying Destiny in the basinet by the bed grabbing the clothes I’d decided to wear. A royal blue shirt and navy skirt. Five minutes later I was curled up on the couch holding a sleeping Destiny as the doorbell rang. Taking one last deep breath I managed to calm my nerves determined to enjoy myself. Unlike other events, it seemed everyone had decided to arrive at once. Nikki arriving with Paul. After everyone was sitting and had a drink in their hand, Rob sat next to me, wrapping his arm around us.

“As a few of you know, Kris fell pregnant during the summer, I’m sure you can all understand why we hid this fact, especially considering the nonsense which was being fed through the media. Two weeks ago Kristen went into labour and blessed me with a beautiful daughter. With that said I’d like you all to meet Destiny Faith Hope Pattinson.”

“She’s beautiful. Just like her mom.”

“Thank you. We’re preparing to reveal her to the fans; even if the media already printed her picture we took some of our own when we were in New York a few days ago.”

“I think that would be a good idea. How do you plan to release the picture?”

“We’re not sure yet. All the magazines we would have chosen said something bad about me over the summer, we had thought of asking Nick and Ruth to release our statement alongside the photograph.”

“That’s a good plan, I’m sure the media will have to earn your trust back.”

“Thanks Jackson, how’s Monroe.”

“He’s adorable. He’s with his mom.”

“I’m sorry we never said anything, I wanted to tell you but the way everything was I was scared to.”

“I understand. You know you can talk to me whenever you need to though.”

“I know. Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.”

“I have something to say.”

“Thought you might. Alright Nikki what do you have to say.”

“Actually it’s for Rob. How do you know the summer reports were false? You can’t know for sure.”

“That’s where you’re wrong. I know for a fact it’s false because we never left each other’s side, every time I was on stage alone, Kristen was backstage, the only event she didn’t attend was the VMAs because she had commitments in Toronto, just like I did when the Movie Awards were scheduled.”

“Nikki, you out of everyone here should know how much Rob means to me, he’s my life, when we are apart it physically hurts. You’ve watched us for the last 5 years and now you try to challenge my dedication to him. We all know the media make up bullshit about every single one of us on a daily basis. I’d rather die than be without him. We’re married for god’s sake.”

Slowly handing Destiny to Rob, I stood up making my way into the downstairs bathroom splashing water on my face as I tried hard not to burst into tears. I always knew there was something Nikki had been hiding despite the last 5 years working together. When she’d found Paul I’d been happy for her. I just wished she could be happy for me. Taking a deep breath I gripped hold of the basin wiping the stray tears away from my eyes as I heard the bathroom door open and Ashley standing opposite me. Smiling slight I tried to pull myself together. Today was about Destiny not petty arguments.

“No tears. Today is for you, Rob and Destiny no one else.”

“I’m sorry; the slightest thing sets me off these days.”

“It’s alright you don’t have to explain yourself to me.”

“Thanks Ashley, I honestly don’t know what I’d have done without you and Tay last year.”

“You never have to ask. Like Jackson said we’re here for you. I just think that it’s a shock for her.”

“Because she was married first?”

“Possibly. Feeling better now.”

“Mm. Do they think I’m stupid?”

“No, they think you’re a new mom with a lot to deal with.”

“That’s something I suppose.”

Taking one last deep breath I prepared myself to go back out into the living room. Ashley was right I’d been taking on too much, trying to be superwoman, when in truth I didn’t have to be. From now on things were going to change. By the time I walked back into the living room after Ashley, things seemed to have settled down again, everyone was talking quietly, discussing what movies they were going to be doing next. Curling up on the couch next to Rob I buried my head into his shoulder feeling extremely overwhelmed. His arm wrapped around me as I finally calmed myself down.

“Kristen I’m sorry.”

“I know why you asked I just wish you hadn’t.”

“I understand. I shouldn’t have brought it up.”

“Let’s just forget it and enjoy the night.”

“Sounds good to me.”

Thankfully after Nikki and I talked there were no more issues, I could tell everyone was having a good time and as I suspected Destiny was passed around everyone, easily welcomed into the Twilight family the same way Monroe had a few months beforehand. By the time she arrived back in my arms, I could tell she was due a feed. The look on everyone’s faces had me stifling a giggle, as if I’d breast feed in front of them. Before I could ask, Rob was already on his feet making his way toward the fridge, bringing a bottle back a few minutes later. Taking the bottle from Rob, I couldn’t keep the giggle in anymore as Destiny started to suckle on the teat greedily.

“What? Did you really think I would feed her in front of you all if I hadn’t already pumped milk?”

“Well you did have us worried there.”

“Tay really, you saw more of me in November when you came to see ‘On The Road’.

“Only joking. Now we’re on the subject of work though, any new movies coming up.”

“Rob has a few he’s signed up for and I’ve seen one that catches my eye. It starts filming in April.”

“How come you haven’t said yes yet?”

“Not just me to think of now.”

“Whatever you decide on you’ll be great in it.”

“Thanks.”

“Your welcome.”

The night seemed to fly by, just as conversation started to flow, I looked at the clock realising just how late it actually was. As I looked around the room I realised everyone else had realised this as they started to get ready to leave. Despite my small feeling of being overwhelmed the night had been a success, and definitely on to repeat in the future. Rob had just returned from putting Destiny to bed when everyone started to leave, as disappointed as I was that everyone had started to make tracks, I knew if we stayed up any longer then I definitely wouldn’t be awake when Destiny needed to nurse. After saying goodbye, it didn’t take long before the house was once again peaceful, Rob’s nose skimming along my jawline wishing we were able to be intimate again. Only 4 more weeks. We could wait. Ten minutes later, we were in bed and cuddled against each other. This was where I belonged, in the arms of my husband with our child in the next room. Everything else could wait.

Revealing Destiny To The Fans

March 12th 2013

Rob POV

After celebrating Destiny’s birth with our friends, I could tell it had definitely put a lot of fears to bed for Kristen; the next big test came later today when we finally released our press statement on Destiny’s arrival. It hadn’t been the original plan however after we’d talked to Nick around 6am whilst Kristen had nursed Destiny, it sounded like the better idea. At least this way we would be revealing the news ourselves. I’d been awake for just over an hour when I heard small cries coming from the nursery, making my way slowly toward the crib I scooped Destiny into my arms laying her against the changing table, pulling off the soiled diaper, cleaning her butt before putting a new diaper in its place. After getting her dressed I held her close to my shoulder, smiling as she snuggled into my neck.

“So cute.”

“How long have you been waiting there?”

“Not long. She’s definitely a daddy’s girl.”

“She’s sleepy.”

“I know the feeling but if we’re going to get there on time we need to leave now.”

“You ready for this?”

“As I’ll ever be.”

“Come on then, I have everything packed for Destiny. I thought maybe we could go to lunch after.”

“Sounds good to me.”

Ten minutes later we were in the car alongside Nick, Ruth and Dean. JB had unfortunately been unavailable to attend. I could tell by her body language the closer we got to the hotel where we would be releasing the statement, the more fidgety Kristen became. However I also knew that she was looking forward to finally being able to give our fans some good news. The journey seemed shorter than it had done in the past. Taking a deep breath, I prepared myself to face the cameras. I was used to being in front of the cameras, but it was a whole other story when it came to our daughter. All too soon the car came to a stop, the nerves vanished as I looked into Kristen’s eyes, and for once she was giving me strength. Sliding out of the car, I made my way around to Kristen’s side, helping her out, of course the press were waiting, but this time we’d come prepared covering Destiny’s face with a blanket. Twenty minutes later we were in the main conference room getting ready to show our daughter to the world. Thankfully the media invited had come from morning TV stations. I was brought out of my thoughts by Nick and Ruth telling us it was time.

“Thank you all for coming here today, I’m sure you’re all intrigued as to why you’ve been called here today. My name is Nick and I’m sure you all know I manage Rob Pattinson and Ruth is Kristen’s publicist, the news they have to share with you is extremely close to their hearts and I alongside them ask that you take that into consideration before asking questions. They also ask that you not bring up anything to cause them distress.  With that said I’d like to welcome to the mic Robert and Kristen Pattinson.”

Taking the blanket from Kristen’s shoulder I smiled at our daughter as her blue eyes, my eyes stared back at me, the innocence making me even more protective than I already felt. The nerves which had disappeared became visible again, once again Kristen noticed my feelings, touching my body with her hip, instantly calming my nerves as she leaned her head against my shoulder, I knew this was her way of asking me for support. Wrapping my arm around Kristen’s shoulder, as we walked out to the waiting media, flashbulbs instantly going off as Destiny covered her sensitive eyes with her hands. Pushing aside my protective instincts I led Kristen in front of the microphones keeping my arm securely around my angels.

“As Nick said we have wonderful news to share with our fans, they’ve supported us throughout everything over the last 5 years; it’s time for us to give back by introducing the newest member of our family. Of course the paparazzi once again took the choice away from us, however this is one part of our lives that we refused to let them win on. So I’d like to introduce to you and our fans our daughter Destiny Faith Hope Pattinson born on March 1st 2013.”

Why did it take you so long to reveal this? Surely it would have been easier to just announce the pregnancy when you first found out.”

“At any other period we would have, however the amount of lies being said about Kristen at the time, both of us felt safer not saying anything. My first priority is and always will be my wife and daughter. Meeting Kristen showed me what it feels like to find your soul mate, there isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for her. For them.”

“Will you be giving up any of your movie roles now you’re a father? Kristen will you give up acting?”

“Yes I will be dropping one movie, as discussed with the director and Nick, there is no way at this time I can be a part of Mission Blacklist, and my family come first.”

“And in answer to your question about my giving up acting, no I won’t be. Destiny will come with me when I find the perfect role and it will more than likely be when Rob isn’t filming. Or can be close by.”

Kristen rested her head against my shoulder again, and I knew she was tired, by Destiny’s fists in her mouth I knew she needed to nurse. Glancing over at Nick, I nodded as he walked back over to the mic as I moved back a little, making sure the photographers could still see us. The time had come for us to release the picture we’d picked out from the candids Sienna and Tom had taken of us. I’d already told Nick we would appear on the condition Destiny wasn’t in front of the cameras for long, therefore the photograph we chose would still be released to the waiting press. Nick took his place in front of the mic again preparing for the next part of the revelation.

“Rob and Kristen have shown you their beautiful daughter, however I’m sure you can all understand that right now they don’t want her to be in front of the cameras too much, she’s only just two weeks old. That being said, I’m releasing a photograph that was taken whilst they were visiting friends in New York, until they decide otherwise, this will be the only official photograph you’re going to get.”

Finally we were able to leave the glare of the cameras. Dean led us toward a free hotel room where Kristen could nurse before we met up with Kristen’s parents for lunch. The minute the door closed, I helped Kristen undo her shirt and bra smiling as Destiny latched on straight away. She was getting so quick at finding her food. Crouching down I rubbed Kristen’s thigh taking a deep breath as my touch calmed her instantly. Five minutes later we were back in the car on our way toward Le Rustic Inn to meet up with Jules and John. Now the fans were going to find out about Destiny I was even more protective than I was already, however that being said I knew the majority of the fans were going to be happy for us. They’d been speculating about this since the summer of last year. Thankfully I’d been able to hide the real reason we were going to lunch, I knew how much Kristen wanted a big wedding, and I was determined to make that dream come true. Declaring our love in front of our friends and family would be the biggest thing we would ever do. Renewing our vows wasn’t my only surprise for Kristen. Our daughter’s christening was my first surprise. Kristen would get the surprise of her life and I knew she’d love it. She mightn’t say it a lot, yet I knew when she was relieved something had been taken out of her hands. My sweet angel.
